Triumph for Kilimanjaro Fundraising Trek!
We here at Taylor & Henderson are proud to report that West Kilbride born David Ramsay was victorious in his recent quest to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro!
David embarked upon this gruelling journey to raise funds for the Ayrshire Hospice, and we were only too happy to help sponsor this invaluable cause! David and a further group of 11 from Ayrshire set off with Tanzania in their sights on the 19th March 2010. When they eventually reached Africa, they found conditions tough from the outset with tropical rain falling every day making walking extremely difficult and hazardous.
The climb from base camp at 4700m started just after midnight on Wednesday 24th March. The rain which incessantly poured quickly turned to snow as they ascended. Temperatures on summit night were below minus twenty - cold enough for most of the drinking water to freeze, zips on jackets would not function and some of the straps on the rucksacks even snapped due to brittle fracture!! With the exception of the summit day all the walks ranged from 9 to 12 hours - the summit climb consisted of David walking for 36 hours with a mere 3 hours rest!
Collectively the group managed to raise more than £50,000 for the Ayrshire Hospice. We are so proud of David's accomplishment and we hope by sponsoring such a worthwhile cause, the money raised will help to aid the Ayrshire Hospice in their plight to provide an integrated specialist palliative care service to patients in all care settings across Ayrshire.
Another baby joins the Taylor & Henderson Family!
The most recent addition to our baby boom is Brodie Emma McKenzie. Brodie's mum Emma is one of our private client solicitors. Brodie was born on the 4th of March 2010 and weighed in at a healthy 8lbs and 12oz. Brodie is pictured above with her grandpa, our very own Senior Partner Alistair Green! Both Brodie and first-time mum Emma are doing very well. Congratulations to all the family!
A STEP in the right direction
We are very proud to announce that one of our Associates, Jacqui Taylor, who works principally in our Irvine Office, has recently been accepted by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and a full member of the Society. She submitted three thesis papers to the Society in support of her application to become a TEP. These papers discussed the new Inheritance Tax double nil rate band, the responsibilities of Trustees in terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the duties, powers and record keeping obligation on Trustees. STEP members are recognised as being the most experienced and senior practitioners in the field of trusts and estates.
